PRESS RELEASE

Somewhere In The Afterbeat is an EP by British singer-songwriter and rapper, RKZ.

A four-track extended play executively produced by York-based Handbook, Somewhere In The Afterbeat features long-time collaborator, Shawn Sanderson, as well as Alfie Scully and Waqas of Outlandish. The EP was recorded at RKZ’s London home during the April lockdown caused by the global Coronavirus pandemic. The EP discusses themes of isolation, introspection, love and depression, playing off of points close at heart to the musician as well as the current climate. The EP features a combination of lo-fi hip-hop and mellow R&B — a sound synonymous with the workings of Handbook, who also produced RKZ’s debut album, Visionaries, in July 2019.

100% of proceeds from sales made, will be donated to The Campaign Against Living Miserably (50%), and Cad & The Dandy and Huntsman’s fundraiser which will go towards the production of NHS scrubs and protective gear for frontline workers helping tackle the pandemic (50%).

About CALM: "We’ve experienced a record surge in demand for our helpline… 37% uplift in daily calls in the week stricter measures were announced to be precise. And the demand continues to be unprecedented. That means, right now, we're taking a record number of calls. Every week, thousands of people are calling us in need of help and support and we are doing everything we can to keep up with the demand. We’re needed more than ever - but we can’t do it alone. That’s why we’re taking our own advice and asking for help." More here.

About C&TD/Huntsman: "Working within the strict guidelines of the current lockdown, all participating staff are volunteering, giving their time and expertise for free. Collectively making scrubs to order, our teams are helping to make up the current national shortfall. We need your help to buy cloth and trimmings. With a target of £10,000 every penny counts! Should we exceed this target, production will be increased to deliver more garments, going above and beyond our original commitment." More here.

The EP is written and recorded by RKZ, produced, mixed and mastered by Handbook, and features Waqas, Shawn Sanderson, and Alfie Scully. It releases on Saturday 2nd May, 2020.
