A Passionate Discourse
As time goes by, it’s understandable to forget how much you’ve changed over the years. I never thought I’d get to the day where my first place to write, vent and exhale would be here—online—as opposed to my notepad. The added irony being, I opened the pad and wrote, “Sometimes you just need to write things down” and then immediately jumped on my laptop. There’s never enough time for writing these days, even though there’s no real time cap. We’re caught up in this perpetual rush fuelled by absolutely nothing but ourselves.
The fact remains, sometimes you really do need to write things down in order for the universe to make sense again. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and caught up in a mass of disorganisation, communication and fatigue. We’ve never been more on-the-go; and yet we’re all sat in the same place.People are getting good at doing a lot, without ever actually doing anything at all. And the idea of that is frightening.
People often refer to me as an ‘old head on young shoulders’ type, and it’s valid. I’m very much in the industry (and generation) I complain about for not exploring the roots and history of where we are. I’m the type to be disheartened at the lack of passion we display. I’m the type to be saddened by people sticking to what they know because they’re afraid to jump. Yet, it’s been a while since I actually jumped.
I guess, I’ve come to the point where my passion for everything comes and goes. I put it down to being consistently tired: inside I’m excited for what’s in store; outside I get asked how long it’s been since I last properly slept. There’s no rest for the wicked. Even less for the hopeful romantics.
Passion is a beautiful thing, and it’s something we take for granted a lot more than we think. I genuinely believe anything can happen when you put your mind to it. It just won’t be easy. You’ll struggle. You’ll quit. You’ll scrap every idea you had, only to start from scratch and build your foundation again. And again. Until it’s better. Until it’s stronger. And when you finally get there—through years of painstaking emotions—you’ll feel like your journey is at an end. You’ll feel like you’re on empty. And THAT exact point in time is when you need to push yourself beyond your skin. Beyond your idea of tiredness, beyond your pain threshold. At that point, you need to think about how you want to leave your legacy. At that point, you need to think about why you started this in the first place. Your determination—your ideal—should and will be the one (and probably only) thing that stays consistent throughout your journey to success. Whatever success is to you.
Whatever you do, do it with meaning. Do it with the drive people could only dream of having. Don’t let yourself be forgotten in this maze that we’re in. Have a purpose behind your voice, your action and your ambition. Never, ever, forget why you’re here. And if you don’t think you know—never stop chasing the answer.
Too low they build, who build beneath the stars.
